06/22/2010- 08/03/2010 Sinatra! On the Silver Screen Film Series begins June 22 at Oak Park Library (Event)
Celebrate one of Hollywoods most famous legends. Heres your opportunity to see Frank Sinatra on the big screen seven weeks in a row, beginning Tuesday, June 22, at 2 p.m. at the Oak Park Public Library. Film historian Doug Deuchler presents seven of Sinatras greatest films in Sinatra! On the Silver Screen Film Series. Frank Sinatra sang, danced, and acted in some of the most enjoyable movies ever made.

Deuchler will offer introductory comments and lead an informative discussion after each film. These film screenings, offered by the Friends of the Oak Park Public Library, are free. Films will be shown on Tuesday afternoons at 2 p.m. in the Veterans Room of the Main Library, 834 Lake Street.

"On the Town"
Tuesday, June 22, at 2 p.m.:
"On the Town" directed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donley, 1949, 98 minutes. Three sailors on a day of shore leave in New York City look for fun and romance.

"From Here to Eternity"
Tuesday, June 29, at 2 p.m.:
"From Here to Eternity" directed by Fred Zinnemann, 1953, 118 minutes. Based on a bestseller, this story focuses on the troubles of soldiers stationed in Hawaii at the time of the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.

"Suddenly"
Tuesday, July 6, at 2 p.m.:
"Suddenly" directed by Lewis Allen, 1954, 75 minutes. Gangsters trap a family in their home with the intention of killing the U. S. President passing through the community.

"The Man with the Golden Arm"
Tuesday, July 13, at 2 p.m.:
"The Man with the Golden Arm" directed by Otto Preminger, 1956, 119 minutes. A strung-out junkie and card dealer in Chicago struggles with his addiction

"Pal Joey"
Tuesday, July 20, at 2 p.m.
"Pal Joey" directed by George Sidney, 1957, 111 minutes. A musical about a charming, talented guy who is also a first-class, number-one heel.

"Some Came Running"
Tuesday, July 27, at 2 p.m.
"Some Came Running" directed by Vincente Minnelli, 1959, 137 minutes. A writer and army veteran returns to his Indiana hometown after World War II.

"The Manchurian Candidate"
Tuesday, August 3, at 2 p.m.
"The Manchurian Candidate" directed by John Frankenheimer, 1962, 126 minutes. A former Korean War POW is brainwashed by Communists into becoming a political assassin. www.oppl.org
